Great song from Warren Haynes' excellent blues-rock group Gov't Mule. Warren is also a fulltime member of the Allman Bros. and various other projects. I can't figure out why this band doesn't get any airplay on classic rock radio (not here in Canada, anyway).....Allen woody, R.I.P.
Excellent cover of the Jeff Beck-Jan Hammer tune on Derek's Black Utopia CD which features a stellar line-up of guitarists including Al Dimeola, Zakk Wylde, Steve Lukather , and Yngwie Malmsteen. Also includes legendary drummer Simon Phillips. Derek's fulltime job has him handling keyboard duties with Dream Theatre.
First heard of with David Bowie in Tin Machine, this is Reeves 3rd solo album on Steve Vai's Favored Nations label.
When these guys came along in the 80's, I was glad to see black musicians playing rock for a change instead of that horrible rap and hip-hop garbage. Too bad other bands didn't follow suit because these guys are amazing musicians. Guitarist Vernon Reid is a great and under-rated player.
Good toe tappin', beer swillin' tune from this band. Guitarist-vocalist Gordie Johnson originally did this song with his band Big Sugar. Also features Whip Layton formerly of Double Trouble
Excellent fusion band from Quebec. Largely ignored in english Canada, which is too bad considering their talent. Great playing from guitarist Michel Cusson, bassist Alain Caron, and drummer Paul Brochu. This is tune is also on their live album "World Tour '90" and features a lengthy, but never boring guitar solo that rivals just about any I've heard. Probably the best sounding live album ever recorded and NO OVERDUBS!!
One of the founders of folk-rock and the starting point for virtuoso guitarist Richard Thompson. A stunning, beautiful ballad. When I die this is the song I want played at my funeral... a little morbid, I know.
Another band sadly lacking on North American radio. Excellent guitar work from Bill Nelson and great song writing. Their first album "Axe Victim" sounds like Jimi Hendrix meets David Bowie.
